What's been happening
Dear member

Another fantastic week weather wise has meant a busy course and clubhouse. My thanks to all the staff for thier efforts recently, it's been pretty full on for most of March and all of April so far.

We held our first new members event last Friday, 13 of our new members were in attendance and I thank you all for making the effort.
I think the majority, if not everyone, went away with a new golfing buddy, a swindle invite and/or a better understanding of what we are about as a club (plus new pitch repairer) My thanks to the committee and our swindle leaders who were also in attendance.

The green keepers have had another busy week, ensuring the bunkers on hole 7 will soon be ready for play. Rubber liners have been added as has the sand. The sand needs a little time to settle, so until then, these bunkers are mandatory GUR.

It's the second best week of the year, golf tournament wise, and for me, the start of the golfing season. The Masters will throw up all sorts of stories, it always does. The smart money is on Scottie Scheffler, the sentimental money on Rory and the risk takers have 20+ players to choose from! I hope you enjoy watching the best players play one of the most iconic courses in the world.

Competition season is in full flow, the Friday stablefords have begun, the 9 hole grand prix starts in 4 weeks time and our first club major is just over two weeks away.
A reminder to all players that in order to WIN a club major, players must have played three individual qualifying, club organised competitions (stablefords or Strokeplay) in the 365 days prior to the competition date.

CAPTAINS CORNER - One Month In !

Following the madness that was captains drive in and lots of meetings and arranging club matches things are starting to settle down… not correct it is as manic as I had expected so here goes.

As per Rob’s notes it is great to see so many new members on the course enjoying the excellent playing conditions we have at the Millbrook, I look forward to catching up with them at one of the new member nights we have planned.

The season has well and truly kicked off with our first club match already reported but a fine 6-0 win against Royston this week we entertain Chalgrave, the mid handicap season will soon be starting and I know that Stu is looking for a win this season, comps are starting keep an eye on V1 and also the several marketing screens dotted around the club.

Social activities have got off to a flying start with the well-attended quiz night and Bingo night , John is keeping ahead of the game with many events to integrate our many sections and swindles, please support if you possibly can.

Early days but a quick update on my charity year, with 3 events under my belt we are nearing £5k raised already and with the Jurassic walk gathering momentum, currently sitting at just over £2k with gift aid, our target could easily be beaten. Last Fridays Bingo night had the first playing of the key to the door and one lucky winner had 3 attempts at opening the door without success and therefore it rolls over to the next event being the pop quiz on the 23rd May. Please support this event , information is on the screen and please enter asap to avoid disappointment.

Quick reminder to note the charity day on the 19th July anyone wishing to support the event with sponsorship please contact me.

It’s been a hectic start but ably supported by Rob and his team and of course John and the social team, it has been fun .

CLUB TEAM V CHALGRAVE

Fine weather and a little more bounce certainly played a part in our club match against Chalgrave last Saturday.

Match 1 saw vice Kylie and Hardeep secure a 4 and 3 victory over a couple of handy players from Chalgrave 1 up.
Match 2 was to be millbrooks only loss with Darren and Adam struggling to keep up with the opposition but only lost 1 down 1-1
Match 3 saw Walter and Fraser secure the biggest win of the day beating a couple of decent players 7 and 5 2-1
Match 4 saw the in form helen and john win 2 up but with a massive 46 better ball points to take 6 points in the club match league 3-1
Match 5 was a tight affair that Darren and Chris saw the lead pass between themselves and the guys from chalgrave and I am told it was ½ well fought 3.5-1.5
Match 6 saw James and Paul cruise to a 6 and 4 victory against brave opponents . so Final score 4.5 – 1.5

2 Matches played, 2 won , new comers welcome .
