COURSE NEWS 18th MAY
Tent moths
Not much to report on this week - the dry spell continues. We are watering every night, putting down over 14,000 gallons each time, backed up by daytime hand watering to apply wetting agent. Otherwise, we are into summer routine, when most of the energy goes into mowing - Gavin calls Eaton in summer the grass factory. The greens measured 9’ 2” on the Stimp, despite the seed heads continuing.

It’s worth sharing the high levels of praise the course received during the recent Chester Festival golf, which was held at Eaton. Players were extremely impressed, referring to the greens as ‘like carpets’; more than one made enquiries about membership opportunities.

We are still waiting for our new season’s pin flags to be delivered. They have to be hand-stitched and there has been a rush of orders. But we are assured they are almost ready, as are new pins for the putting green.

One item that has caught players' attention has been the tree short of the LH bunker on 7, which is festooned with white webs. It’s caused by ‘Tent moths’ (which are also visible on the tree). We understand the caterpillars will eat the tree leaves but not cause lasting damage.
