Something amazing has happened! Our West Hove Badgers have only gone and won again; that’s 3 weeks in a row. And guess what? Another 5-1 victory, this time vs Cottesmore Bees. The Badgers, previously known as The Colts, are absolutely on fire. The next match is away to Ham Manor, and they are no easy walkover – last season we scraped a draw – I will let you know how they get on.
Saturday 17th May – West Hove V Hollingbury:
West Hove got a 2 ½ 2 ½ draw. First thing I want to say is the Hollingbury course was ridiculously challenging, the greens were so fast but very bumpy & patchy and almost impossible to putt on. The fairways were so dry, the balls were rolling off even when you hit it down the middle and that is probably why we didn’t win 5-0. A big shout out to my playing partner Geoff Medhurst who played like a single figure handicapper. Geoff sunk two 7 footers and a 15-footer on the 15th, I swear I saw a tear in the opponent’s eyes when it dropped in, I’m not even going to mention the shot he played from deep rough behind the 14th green. Ok I will then, he knocked it to 6 inches, probably the best shot he has ever played. Well done, Geoff, you can be my wing man anytime! Captain Alan Pook came along to support us all from the start to finish. He was out on the course in the buggy cheering us all on. Thank you, captain, for your support.
Monday 19th May Cyril Blake Team:
More great news! The Cyril Blake team took on Hollingbury and took ‘em down 3 & 2. Captain of the team, and past captain Lee Bonaldi, was 1st out and won 2 up with his partner Graham Fuller. 2 other past Captains, Pete Rodger and Tim Ingram, both won their matches with playing partners Mark Haggart & John Dean. John hit a 6 iron to 3ft on the 18th to secure a 3 net 2 win on the hole. A superb team effort and did you know only 15% of teams win away.
Sunday 18th May Commonwealth Cup:
This is the 2nd of the Race To Victory event. Some excellent scoring from Rob Steel 76 net 65 and the on-form Dean Coombes 73 net 65. Well done boys! Someone else who is on form is ex Captain Lee Bonaldi who shot 80 net 67 to win Div 2. Nice one Lee.
Wildlife:
We all know our resident fox has had her cubs. Rumours have it she has 3 cubs. She now lives on the east bank 7th tee box area on top of the hill. We think this is her 3rd litter. M&S sausage rolls from Ronnie Baker & roast beef with all the trimmings from Tony Peters are just a few snacks that keep her going!
