What's been happening
Dear Member

I think we would all agree that whilst we have had to sacrifice some sunshine, most of us have welcomed the rain. Other than possibly the Juniors that were out on the course in the Junior Open on Tuesday, which unfortunately saw the worst spell of the weather.

The course looks luscious and green once again thank you to the green keepers and their efforts. We have had nothing but praise from members and visitors for not only the course, but also being complemented on our friendliness as a whole club.

Our teams have been in action several times in the past ten days, reports from the captains below:

Mid Handicap Team
Report from Stu Jennings:

After a bruising defeat away to Dunstable Downs in our opening match, the Mid HC team took on Colmworth at home on 18th May, in a must win fixture.

The match got off to an unusual start with a no-show from the stand in Colmworth Captain, meaning Millbrook were 1-0 up before a ball had been struck. Leg 1 saw Matt McGall battle back impressively from being 3-Down through 3 to win 5&3. After the concession of Leg 2, Leg 3 saw Paul Masters took on an opponent who was +2 gross through 11 holes! Despite a valiant fightback, Colmworth took the leg 5&3. Leg 4 was a procession for Dylan Cilliers who cruised to a 5&3 win, so all eyes then turned to the final leg. This was a proper war of attrition between Sheldon Halley and his opponent, with barely a hole being halved all match. Standing on the 18th 1-Down Sheldon pulled a great drive out of the locker and then stiffed his approach pin high to win the hole, and tying the leg.

Final score Millbrook 3.5-1.5 Colmworth, meaning we have W1 L1. The team goes again this coming Sunday, home to South Beds.

Mid Handicap Team
Report: Stu Jennings

On Sunday 25th May, fresh from a home win the week before, the Mid HC side hosted a tricky opponent in South Beds. Leg one was anything but challenging though as Colin Dullingham cruised to resounding 8&6 victory. The second leg saw Dan Kidman shoot well under his handicap, but he was facing an opponent who shot 4 over gross meaning South Beds took the point. The third leg was a incredibly tight tussle, with the game never more than 1 up for either player. Stood on the 17th tee all square, my opponent put his tee shot into the trees adjacent to the fourth tee leaving me a clear shot at the green in reg to win the hole, and then go on to halve the final hole winning the game 1 Up. Legs 4 and 5 were both comfortable Millbrook wins with Steve Gordon and James Hannaford both dispatching their respective opponents 3&2.

Final score, Millbrook 4 - 1 South Beds.

The team have now P3 W2 L1 and face a crucial home game this coming Sunday (1st June) vs Dunstable Downs.

Club Team
Report from Andy Teague:

Well it was always going to be a tall order to overhaul Buckingham at Buckingham and so it proved on a beautiful day in May.
The lead game saw paul masters and Steve Gordon play great golf but lost 4 and 3 to a solid pair.
Helen and rob , despite scoring 48 better ball points, lost their match 1 down .
Andy and Darren played great golf and were duly rewarded with a 5 and 3 win against good opposition.
Simon Brandon on his first game for the club managed to scrape a draw with Rob Almond , a tough but enjoyable match I am told.
Seb and Sheldon toiled away but eventually lost out 3 and 2 as did Rob and James , tough day at the office .

The first loss of the season 4.5 – 1.5
Our congrats go to the Buckingham who out a strong team .

Thanks all for your time and hope you enjoyed the day out, we travel to Whipsnade this Saturday hoping to get back to winning ways.

MILLBROOK JUNIOR OPEN
Unfortunately for the 26 Juniors that took part on Tuesday morning, the heavens opened for a long period of their round. It made for very tough course conditions as you could imagine, although the scores remained impressive. Ollie Clark shot a very impressive Nett 69 to win playing off 7 shots so congratulations Ollie!
