Apologies for the late update - May's exceptional weather kept us particularly busy with course maintenance throughout the month.
1. May Weather and Course Conditions: May's prolonged dry, sunny conditions meant we had to water extensively to protect our greens from drought stress. The welcome rainfall at month's end allowed us to verti-cut the greens just as they began to seed, which enabled us to reduce the height of the greens. Throughout May, you experienced some disease scarring and slower green speeds due to our maintenance programmes. These issues were successfully addressed during the month, and playing conditions improved significantly by month's end.
2. What We Achieved in May: Despite April's cold mornings that slowed early growth, we managed to cut all course areas, including sections that hadn't been cut since September 2024. We made good progress on drainage work at the 12th hole, and all greens received fertiliser applications. This year's particularly troublesome daisies and dandelions were successfully treated throughout May, and we continued repairing ongoing badger damage with excellent support from our volunteers. We also managed
3. Important Reminder: Green keeping staff had right of way on the course at all times during essential maintenance operations. Thank you for your patience and cooperation during May's intensive maintenance period.
4. Moving Forward: With growth having accelerated through May, we increased cutting operations significantly. The course finished the month in excellent condition, setting us up well for June.
Our goal remains making Wishaw Golf Club the finest course in Lanarkshire.
5. Volunteers Welcome: Our volunteer team continues to make a huge difference - join us Mondays from 8:30 AM or any day that suits. Contact the club office if interested.
Best regards,
