Sunday 25th May – George Goddard Cup: This was the first junior major of the year and we had a massive turnout and great support from mums & dads out on the 1st tee box. I watched them all tee off and I couldn’t have been more proud. Their professionalism, manners, determination and smartness were outstanding. Did you know we have 53 junior members. These are our club’s future captains and club champions!
More Junior News: Ryan Fenwick hosted a small charity event at Hollingbury last week and they had “Beat the Pro” on the 4th - par 3 hole. With the last 3 groups Ryan swapped the pro for our very own Alex Romanowski (aged 9). Just need to let you all know, he beat them all. First shot went to 4ft, second shot went to 8ft and his 3rd went to 12ft. We have a little star on our hands here at West Hove. The 4th hole is 149 yards and it was breeze against.
Wildlife: Past captain, Ivan Parnell, has just told me something awesome. We spoke about red kites and buzzards previously but guess what has been spotted by his own eyes? SEA EAGLES… they introduced the sea eagle to the Isle of Wight from Scotland and Scandinavia a few years back and they are now slowly spreading across the south coast. Keep your eyes out for this white tailed beauty! P.S. the white tailed sea eagle is the largest in Europe.
16th tee box – check out the stinging nettles where the tortoiseshell butterflies breed and the nettles are an important food source for the caterpillars.
Friday 23rd May Quiz Night: What a fantastic night of fun & laughter we all had. The winners were The Grasshoppers – Rick Roberts, Billy McCusker and wives and Clay. Thanks for everyone who got involved, especially Jodie & Tracey behind the bar and our scorekeeper Rebecca. Brilliant night, our next quiz is October 3rd so put it in your diary! P.S. Past captain Steve Thatcher, who normally captains The Grasshoppers quiz team, couldn’t make it this time around and this is the first time team Grasshoppers has won it (I’m not saying anything ha ha).
Hero of the Week: Jimmy Jones, 22 handicap and 5ft 2in, chipped in on the 2nd and the 13th this week!
