COURSE NEWS 15th JUNE
Replacement Pins
It’s been a typical summer week, overshadowed by the team being two men down (out of 6, so significant), and the need to have the course look its best for Captain’s Day. Inevitably the focus has to be on mowing, but we managed to spend some time strimming the stream banks.

Although it might have seemed wetter we only measured a scant 3 mm of rain up to Friday, and with a warm dry spell forecast for the coming week. The greens continued to run well, achieving 9’ 9”.

The current high humidities have encouraged fungal disease, with some evidence of fusarium on the greens which prompted Gavin to spray, for the first time this year. One application costs £800; many courses automatically spray every 6-8 weeks. The fine grass composition on our greens is much more resistant to disease than the more prevalent poa annua found elsewhere.

Replacement pins, which echo the slim neck on-course model, are now in place on the putting green and chipping green. It’s all part of the underlying focus on improving the club’s image.
