Gorleston loses in playoff
On Monday morning the team of Jackie Walsh, Leigh Denny,Marie Norman,Pauline Ledger,Gail Chapman and Pauline Phillips travelled to Rookery Park G.C for the match against Diss G.C in an effort to retain the trophy they won last year.
Throughout the mornings play all the games were very close as both teams played excellent golf . Either team could have won.
Gorlestons first pair of Leigh and Jackie came in showing the way with the first win of the day.
Our second pairing of Marie and Paula again came in winners to give Gorleston a 2 -0 lead.
Our third team of Pauline and Gail made Diss fight hard for every point but eventually losing , giving Diss 1 point.
Gorleston finishing the morning with a 2-1 lead.
The afternoon 18 holes were all very evenly matched, with our first pairing of Jackie and Leigh losing eventually to give Diss the 1 point. This meant the match was poised at 2 all.
The second pairing of Paula and Marie again played brilliantly, winning their match, giving Gorleston the lead once more.
Our 3rd pairing of Gail and Pauline as always played great golf and contested every hole ,but eventually loosing to a very hard pair to beat.
At the end of 36 holes the result was Gorleston 3 Diss 3. This meant a sudden death play off.
Gorleston team of Paula and Marie ,were followed by the rest of the team and our supporters down the first playoff hole which finished all square.
On the second hole Diss had a one shot advantage and were first on the green.
Marie had a long shot to the green which unfortunately finished up in the trees,Paula put the next shot on to the green but Diss having the extra shot putted out to win.
Well played all the team , Gorleston G.C should be proud to have such players , as I was being their match captain.
