Guidelines for Play during Competitions
SLOW PLAY
It has come to our attention that recently some competitions have been backed up due to slow play.
Our club competitions are open to any member with a handicap which means a very high handicap could be playing just in front of a low handicap and obviously they will be slower. Having said that, if you find your group is dropping back from the group playing in front of you and the group behind are waiting on the tee, please take the initiative and offer them to play through.
This should substantially reduce the overall impact of slow play on the overall competition plus we ask that you follow the Golf England recommendations to avoid slow play:
• Be ready to play: have your club selection made and be ready to play when it’s your turn
• Move quickly between shots: don’t spend excessive time looking for lost balls or assessing putts.
• Keep up with the group in front: don’t allow a gap to form between your group and the one ahead. Let the group behind through if you are losing ground.
• Play Ready Golf: if it’s safe to do so, play out of turn to keep the pace moving.
• Communicate: if you feel pressure from the group behind, let them know your situation and if it’s appropriate, offer them to play through.
Guidelines for expected rounds at Torrington course:
4-Ball 18-Holes should be no more than 3.5hrs
3-Ball 18-Holes should be no more than 3.15hrs

It is the responsibility of every member to be aware of their pace of play so that we can keep the rounds flowing for the enjoyment of everybody.
