Governance Update July 2025
Keeping you informed as to progress
As your all hopefully aware, we’re exploring ways to make Alsager Golf & Country Club even better – by strengthening how the club is run, not changing what makes it special.
With guidance from England Golf, we’re looking at options to create a fairer, more professional structure that shares responsibility and supports long-term success and continuity.
As part of this, we’re considering what roles should make up any future Board and how that Board should be selected – ensuring every key area is covered, the workload is shared, and nothing gets overlooked.
We’re also reviewing how Club Officers can focus on representing the club without the added pressure of attending or leading board meetings – helping ensure their year in office is enjoyable and stress-free.
We believe these improvements will help us make better decisions, plan more effectively, provide continuity, increase transparency, and deliver real value to members – both on and off the course.
Let us assure you our members are at the heart of our club, and they should have a voice in its future development. Transparency is central to everything we are trying to achieve, and we’ve engaged two independent advisors from England Golf to ensure this process is fair, balanced, and aligned with best practice guidelines established across similar member-owned golf clubs.
A key part of these best practice guidelines is the creation of a skills register across our membership. To support this, we’ll soon be conducting a short survey that we hope all members will take part in.
Member forums will follow shortly, where we’ll share more information and welcome your views.
And just to be clear – we’re not turning corporate, and we’re definitely not suggesting we should become like any flashy, profit-driven golf resort. We’re simply working to be the best member-owned club we can be – run by members, for the members.
Together, we can build a stronger, better club – while preserving everything that makes Alsager Golf & Country Club great.
