The scratch section lost by 7 points to 5 points. Our winning players were Phil Chadwick 1up, well done, Nic Winstanley, winning by a magnificent 8&7, well played Nic, our 1 point was gained by Tom Lee with a great half. Our losing players were Graeme Speight 5&4, Andy Hood 2&1 and Jacob Brown losing on the last hole 1 down to a birdie. I had the pleasure of caddying for Jacob who had never played at Hunley before, there was some great golf played and a big thank you Jacob for your great efforts playing for the team, but unfortunately Jacob is having to go back to work in Taiwan so is only available for our last game of the season – it has been a pleasure young man, your attitude has been fantastic.
The handicap section won by 7 points to 5 points. Our winning players were Marc Symington 2&1, Darren Hurst 3&1 and my fellow team manager Neil Kerr, drafted in again but never lets me down, winning a magnificent 5&3. Our 1 point was gained by Craig Ewen, a great half. Our losing players were Steve Smart 3&1 and Will Bellerby 2 down. I am told both these matches could have gone either way but when you have to give shots to your opponent on his home course it is difficult.
The final result being Hunley Hall 12 points, Billingham 12 points. A fantastic performance by everyone of you as this is such a home advantage course and I don’t think they have lost at home all season.
Neil and I would like to thank everyone of you. As I always say, win or lose, as long as you have enjoyed your game and once again the team spirit amongst you all is tremendous, everyone pulling together and supporting each other and the banter is second to none.
I would like to say a big thank you to everyone at Hunley Hall, the hospitality was excellent from the players, the managers, the bar staff and the kitchen staff for feeding and watering everyone. The chicken tikka masala and the treacle pudding and custard was fantastic!
We could not have wished for a better night to play golf as many of you know it is a tough place to play, normally windy and cold but not on Wednesday, shorts and t-shirts and no wind, and the course was in good condition.
Now a few thank you’s to our supporters, yes they turn up everywhere we play no matter the distance. Firstly our captain Glen Brocklesby hope you have a fantastic away day, sorry I am unable to attend for reasons beyond my control - the bar takings will be down!! President Stewart Openshaw and Jack Hurst both keeping us informed of how the lads were getting on around the course, and a special thank you to my Top Dog partner Terry Buckley for caddying for Craig Ewen. Hope you have recovered by now Terry, it’s a hard slog, more hilly than Billingham!
Our next fixture is at home to Richmond Golf Club on Wednesday 23rd July 2025. Neil and I will be looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible coming along to support the team and watching some great golf, and as I always say it has to be better than watching the soaps or the ladies football on TV - put this in especially for you Holly (not with the 'ie' :-) )
With Thanks
Tony The Tiger and Neil Kerr
