A repeat from last year saw Teddy Hall retaining his Men’s Club Champion for the third consecutive year and Tabby Brain retaining the Ladies Club Champion. Teddy, 21, who plays off a plus two handicap opened with a level par 72 on day one, which was one shot behind leader David Marris and tied with Sampson Marino, with three other players on one over par 73’s. The second round proved very tight with four players battling it out on the back nine for the Championship. First round leader, David Marris continued his good play with a front nine of level par to maintain a one shot lead from Theo Morris, with Teddy and Sampson a further shot back. A tense back nine saw all four players within one shot with two holes to play. David (74) and Teddy (73) finished tied on 145, with Sampson (74) and Theo (73) one shot back on 146. The play off commenced with David and Teddy both birding the par 5 first hole, with Teddy parring the second hole to retain his Club Championship.
Tabby Brain, a scratch handicapper, opened her defence with an excellent one over par 73 which included four birdies, the highlight being a second shot to six inches on the 18th hole. This established a two shot halfway lead from Past Champion, Marcella Tuttle. A second round of 76 for Tabby secured the Championship with a 149 total for a five shot victory from Marcella who shot 79 in her second round. Third was Sarah Greenall with a total of 165. It has been a successful few months for Tabby having won the Ladies County Championships in May.
