West Cornwall Seniors hosted Tehidy GC in the first leg of this year’s fixture and came out on top. An early start under dark clouds and clearing heavy showers made the conditions challenging for both teams. With the opening match lost on the 18th, it was down to team anchor David Winks and partner Jim Sinclair-Smith to deliver the first point with a closely fought 1Up result. This was quickly followed by by excellent wins by Malcolm Cadman/Gary Barber (4&3), Tom Gair/John Frewer (6&5) and Ray Pearce/Bill Francis (5&4). Tehidy clawed one back before a convincing win by Andy Wagstaff/Nick Watters (8&6) secured an overall 5-3 victory for the home team.
Well done to all team players for another convincing result and also to Bill Francis for a superb nearest the pin win.
After the match team captain Dennis Fryer gave a special note of thanks to past captain Gary Barber for his support to the club and section over this year (and obviously for delivering a convincing victory in his last match with the section). We all wish him well at his new club after his forthcoming move to Scotland!
Next up, a return leg at Falmouth GC on Thursday 14 August.
