Rube Shield Victory
A great win to get the trophy back where it belongs!

Huge congratulations to team captain, Gary Norman, and our Rube Shield team on winning back the trophy yesterday against arch rivals, Royal Mud, in an epic match here on home soil.

Nip and tuck throughout, and 6 - 6, with the final 13th match finishing all square after 18. A result had to be decided and it took an extra four holes until Tim Hutchence finally saw off his opponent, and the win was secured 7 - 6.

Well done Postman Tim, pictured here with that final handshake! The Newsroom had given Tim that nickname due to the fact he always wears shorts, even in midwinter. Now he maybe deserves it with a more Poulteresq attribute!

The Rube and Victory Shield matches have been played for since 1897 and are always very keenly contested. In the Victory Shield match away TRGC went down 10 - 3

Friday Roll-up

39 players in the roll up this week which meant that the allocated time slot was full up, so a hunt through the CV1 booking system and spaces found for two 2 balls & a 3 ball meant ended well albeit with the eventual winner being announced at a slightly later time than normal. For some this meant an even more enjoyable time spent at Toms Bar!

This week’s winner was Roy Wylie with 40 points and a two shot handicap reduction. His winnings nearly covered his drinks bill! Joint second were David Mills, cut two shots, and our Vice Captain Bill Boucher, cut one shot with 39 points. There is still a roll-up this week but not on Friday 22nd August.

Sunday Roll-up

Top day for golf and 24 squeezed in after the Victory Shield matches. Greens were very slick in comparison to recent times and that was reflected in the scores - also the men’s tees were set up for the Shield.

In any event, there was no denying our clear winner and congratulations go to Enid Hughes, our very own walking daffodil, who destroyed the course with 38 points. Three strokes back was a lively Cathy Pritchard, followed by Cap’n Peg Leg, Chas Bain, with 34.

There were three two’s from Pascal Huser, Jeremy Glanville-Jones and Anthony Pireddu.

See you all next week at the usual time!

That’s All Folks!
