Tuesday’s round saw only 19 players taking part in the final round of The Vets and it was tight at the top with 7 players in with a chance of winning the trophy.
The Vets is a season long competition, played across a maximum of 6 rounds Stableford, with your 3 best scores counting towards a final aggregate.
Before Tuesday’s round, only 3 points separated the top 7 players; however both Jim Stewart and Alistair Hutson were golfing in Spain and had no opportunity to improve their aggregate scores and Gordon More was also unable to play the last round.
On the day, the leading scorer was Brian Connelly with an excellent 37 points.
Second place on the day was Alan Lambert Thomson with 35 points, who just edged Colin Broadley in to 3rd place on a countback.
Stewart McKay will be ruing a missed opportunity having been on a run of good form recently, Stewart’s 33 points on Tuesday sees him missing out on matching the winning aggregate score by only 1 point. Likewise, Malcolm McGowan will be ruing the ones that got away with only scoring 31 points in his final round to also miss out by a single point.
Long term pace setter Donald Caskie managed only 32 points in his final round and was unable to improve his aggregate tally, also missing out by a single point.
Only a single birdie 2 (for golf balls) on Tuesday with that being recorded by Alan Lambert Thomson on the 13th, great birdie on a tough par 3.
However, massive congratulations to Duncan in winning the trophy for the second time in the 3 seasons that it’s been in play; Duncan won the inaugural trophy back in 2023 as well.
In his final round on Tuesday, Duncan only managed 28 points, but his early season points of 41 in May, 36 in August and 35 from June see’s Duncan win the competition by a single point.
