McInally Matchplay Pairs joy for Stephen and Steven
Congratulations to Stephen Barkey and Steven Hardie on winning the McInally Matchplay Pairs Final at the 18th hole against opponents Stephen William Forrest and Michael Hewitt.
Steven and Michael got off to a strong start winning the first two holes but Stephen and Steven fought back determinedly to level the game at the 5th hole.
Stephen and Steven then won the 7th to take a one hole lead at the turn. In a back and forth game Stephen and Michael then took the 10th and 11th to turn the match on its head. A solid par 3 at the 12th saw the Barkey and Hardie pair level again before Forrest and Hewitt took the 14th despite giving up a shot on the hole. Solid par 3's followed at 15th before the match turned again with Hardie and Barkey winning the 16th to level the match once more. Fittingly solid par 4's from both pairs at 17 saw the match go down 18. The 18th was played in a very scruffy manner into a freshening wind and a light rain. Forrest and Hewitt hit some trouble and the pairing of Barkey and Hardie were left with a short putt to take the match.
A match played in wonderful spirit and no pair ever more than two holes up.
The course once again was presented in fantastic condition for the time of year.
Well done to Stephen and Michael on reaching the Final after a great run of victories.
