County Foursomes
East Devon Winners
On Sunday (21st), the Devon Golf County Scratch and Handicapped Foursomes took place at Staddon Heights Golf Club, and East Devon was represented by Guy Peters and Rory Adams.

As the picture shows, they won 2 trophies - both the scratch and handicapped events - in windy conditions on the high ground overlooking Plymouth Sound. On a par 70 course their opening round of 76 saw them in a tie for second place, but they excelled in the afternoon with a brilliant round of 72, which was the joint best round of the day.
The round concluded with a birdie on the last hole to win the event by one shot from the two pairs tied on 149.

Having secured the victory in the scratch event, they then found out that they had won the handicap event by 7 shots to complete the double. Their net score was 136 is 4 under par over the two rounds, an excellent score in foursomes in any conditions on your home course, let alone on a windy day on an away course.

Many of the golfers in the event were playing off scratch or even plus handicaps making their performance on the day even more remarkable as they had a foursomes handicap of 6.

With the Picture Match coming up in 2 weeks’ time, their victory makes them an obvious selection for the foursomes, and they will carry the confidence of being County Champions into the match.

Another September success for an East Devon member was the victory by country member Gary Greer from Cheshire and his partner in the recent Scottish Pairs Golf Challenge. The event takes place over 5 days on 5 different courses and Gary and his partner (David Turney of Sale Golf Club) beat a field of 130 pairs in the event north of the border. They won the event with a record score of 42 under par, and saw their handicaps cut accordingly!.

Congratulations to you all on your success.
