A stop start week weather wise, no course closures but the rain on Saturday meant it was a quiet day on the course! I'm sure you all enjoyed Christmas shopping instead....
Winter League went ahead Sunday in cold but glorious conditions, as usual the scoring defied the difficulty of the course, +9 from Matt Smith & Will Norford get's a round of applause from me!
W/L Round 4 - Top 5 Teams:
1st = M. Smith / W. Norford +9
2nd = O. Esslemont / N. Hebron +7
3rd = M. Griffiths / R. Baker +6
4th = S. Gordon / T. Gordon +5
5th = M. George / C. Elliott +5
We remain on grass tees for now, we would like to reach January before moving to mats however the rain keeps falling. It will no doubt be necessary to move the par 3's and shorter par 4's onto mats sooner rather than later but as above, we will endeavour to stay on the grass for as long as possible.
Thanks to everyone that carried yesterday, it was noticeable that people had made an effort, it makes a real difference to the heavy traffic areas.
Buggy wise, it really is a day by day decision, please phone on the day of play to enquire if buggies are allowed or not.
There is an all day Winter Stableford scheduled this Sunday, play is allowed all day, simply enter on the screen before you play and input your score on the screen when you finish. Due to being on grass tees, this will be a qualifying competition.
There were social, course and management committee meetings this past week. The social committee are very excited by the upcoming 'Meet Santa' event, apparently I have a Grinch costume to wear! I'm not sure what they mean by that....
The social calendar for 2026 is complete, we have at least one event per month, as a rule the last Friday of each month, starting with a Quiz night on Friday 30th January.
Full schedule will go on the screens around the clubhouse shortly.
The course and management committee also held productive meetings. The course committee was focused around the completion of the green keepers facility, which will hopefully be this side of Christmas, jobs on the course, like fringes and approach irrigation to hole 5 and 12 plus re-riveting and shaping of the bunkers on hole 12 were also discussed, In addition, completion of the 13th tee. Weather dependant we will experiment with AstroTurf, adding it to the path on hole 7. Provided the membership like it, we will add it to more and more walkways around the course.
My action item this week is to understand the cost implications of taking on another apprentice, hopefully we will be adding to our workforce for 2026.
The management committee discussed the upcoming AGM ( Tuesday 16th December @ 19:00) along with our usual agenda, focusing on all areas of the business. It's been a fantastic 2025/26 season so far, provided we don't have too many closed days between now and the end of February it will be our best year on record.
Our membership waiting list now grows daily, new additions are being quoted a two year wait. This should ensure we enter 2026/27 with a full membership, which in turn means we can budget with confidence. The up to date priorities list will be be sent out shortly.
