We are delighted to announce that Scottish Golf has awarded Wishaw Golf Club a grant of £12,000 over three years under their “Women & Girls Coordinator Fund” — and we’re one of only 12 clubs across Scotland to receive this support.
Our aim is to open clearer pathways for women and girls to join, feel welcome and supported, and grow their game at Wishaw — strengthening both our club and our community. Currently, female membership across Scottish clubs sits at only ~12%.
Scottish Golf will provide £5,000 in year one — with follow-on payments across the next two years. The funding enables us to appoint a Women & Girls Coordinator — a dedicated role tasked with growing participation, welcoming newcomers, and developing future leaders. Over time, we aim to embed this role into our long-term club strategy — so this isn’t just a short-term boost, but a lasting commitment to inclusion and growth.
To oversee and guide this initiative properly, we’re establishing a Women & Girls Development Working Group. This group will work alongside our Golf Professional, Junior Convenor, Committee, and local partners (e.g. Active Schools) to plan and deliver events, inclusivity programmes, coaching, and membership growth activities.
We’ve already had interest from some members — especially in our ladies’ section — but to make this initiative a success, we need more hands, ideas and voices across all ages, genders and golfing experience levels.
If you’d like to join the Working Group, please get in touch with your name, membership number, and a short note (a few lines is fine) on why you’d like to help shape this new chapter for Wishaw and send to secretary@wishawgolfclub.co.uk.
We’re aiming to begin working on this from January 2026, so please get your Expression of Interest in soon.
This is an exciting moment — one that could significantly broaden access, encourage new members, and help secure a vibrant future for Wishaw. Whether you’re a long-time member, a weekend golfer, or just keen to help make the club more welcoming — we’d love your support.
With thanks,
WGC Management Committee
