Winter Program
Ladies and Gents, The Blackwood Centre has provided a update on course work being carried out over the winter. I have taken the liberty of promoting this further here.
Please be reminded that it is only the back nine holes available this week weather permitting.
As we enter the festive season on the course our winter maintenance program is well underway. You will see lots of continued aeration with our shockwave on the fairways and pro walks from the tees along with tining of tees and greens.
Our goal was to start a substantial clearing program this winter to improve agronomic conditions on greens and tees and also remove trees suffering from Ash die back. You will see the work, carried out on the front 9 in November, carry on into the back nine through December and into the New Year.
Work will start on our freshly cleared 7th hole with the construction of a new path and removal of all the tree stumps. The benefits of this tree felling work will be invaluable to the agronomic conditions of the green allowing more air and light on it and also less leaves falling on it in the Autumn. It has also opened up great views of the North Down countryside from the fairway and green.
Also this month we will starting to clean out some of the worst bunkers on the course to improve them for next season.
We have taken the opportunity of the short days to reduce the course and rest some holes as well to help prevent winter damage. We do intend to open the full 18 over the Christmas period while people are off work and able to get out. Weather permitting we hope to be able to do this from around the middle of December.
