I hope the rapid downturn in the weather hasn’t put you off golf at Brough too much.
As we are now in the grip of autumn and early winter it’s time to remind us all how to keep safe on the course when it is open. There are a few areas to think about more in these conditions:
· If it is too dark or foggy to see where your intended shot will land then you should not continue to play as others could be put at risk. This is a general point not just for winter.
· Surfaces are generally wet and slippery on the course. Please wear appropriate footwear and take additional care with your footing and the routes you take. If it is very icy the course could be fully closed.
· We have seen a number of times in the last few years where the wind speeds have been very high. We have been advised to have a policy on course closure when the winds are very high to fulfil our duty of care to you. The main aspect of this policy is that the course will be closed if the average wind speed is (or is forecast to be) above 38 MPH or gale force 8. At this level there could be gusts of 60 MPH or more and there will be tree damage and flying debris, difficulty in walking and hearing any shout of “fore”. Always remember to shout anyway!
There are not many days where this windspeed occurs at Brough as we are quite sheltered. We will keep this approach under review this winter.
· As always, please give way to the green keeping staff (or anyone else working on the course) until they have acknowledged they have seen you and waved you to play on.
