First and foremost, many thanks are also due to Julie Brimble and the club staff for excellent service during the evening and all the nibbles/ food which hit the mark well.
Before the trophies were presented, the Chairman outlined some of the positive achievements in 2025:
• Increased membership numbers (over 100)
• An increase in participation in the competitions
• The success of the summer weekday roll ups in encouraging new members to enter competitions
• A new Competition and Rules Guidance document has been produced for all members that will be reviewed annually
• A strong and close working relationship with the Operating Company
• That entry fees for competitions would remain at £4 for 2026
Attendees were also informed about a new competitions@oxford-golf.co.uk email where any queries or feedback on competitions can be sent to the Handicap Secretary directly, and were reminded that any general constructive feedback or ideas for the committee should be sent to committee@oxford-golf.co.uk
Winners and runners up were also invited to donate some of their winnings to the Captain’s Charity ( Rose Hill Junior Youth Club https://rhjyc.org/ ) and all members can continue to contribute by popping anything you have to spare in the jar at the bar in the clubhouse up until the end of March 2026.
And so to the winners:
Not all the winners were able to attend, which was a shame, however notable mentions must go to the following who were serial and impressive winners across the year:
• Stephen Finn, Men’s Captain who won the Gresswell Cup, Summer Singles and Order of Merit
• Neil Smith who won both the Men’s and Senior Men’s Club Championships
• David Buckle who had a superb year, winning multiple events including the Champion of Champions, as well as reducing his handicap by four shots - no mean achievement
• Annabel Heywood, Women’s Captain, and Wendy Matthews who both won two major events
It was pleasing to see the Chairman’s Challenge win by Josh Griffiths, Dan Caswell and Ellis Byles: all new members who started with the roll ups, have gained handicaps and their first wins and have added energy to the men’s competitions.
The Chairman closed by thanking the Club Captains (including the Senior Men’s Captain, Ian Cox, and Men’s Hillman / Central Sevens Captain, Gavin Wheeler) and all those committee members for their contributions, and for arguably the shot of the year played by Ian Cox on the 14th hole in winning the Brimble Trophy.
Particular thanks and appreciation were given to the Men’s Club Captain, Stephen Finn, for a year where he has contributed a significant amount of time off the course to support competitions and other club events as well as supporting and playing at all the club majors. A massive effort which can easily go unrecognised.
Photos of the evening will be made available in a folder on V1, and thanks are due to Suzzie Morriss for being our official photographer.
Separately, all members are reminded of elections to the committee which will take place in January. Please look out for information on V1 and in the documents section from the second week of December and the screens in the club which will give details on how to contact the Chairman for an informal chat if you are interested in any of the roles.
Best wishes for a good Christmas break and decent golf throughout the winter season.
Jarlath Brine (Chairman) on behalf of the Members’ Committee
