WCGC Presidents semi final team were greeted with glorious conditions this Sunday at Perranporth, sunny and no wind…wow. We were up against a formidable China Fleet team who were determined to reach the final. It was going to be a battle royal and so it was.

The captain received match updates throughout the day from the fantastic support crew, 1 up, 1 down, all square, each match was oh so close. However, Captain Warwick Holland and Scott Chandler at the rear were on form and produced 4&3 and 6&4 victories respectively.

Now down to the core of the team. Iain Stephan and Mark Eccles kept their winning streaks going winning on the last. However Mark Perry and Stephen Beer just lost their winning records both just losing on the last. So at 4 v 3 it came down to Charl Van Niekerk to win the last (with Dean Godard still out in the course but down) Charl was all square standing on the last tee knowing winning the last would secure victory, but losing would mean we were out. His opponent, with the honour hit the middle of the fairway, now is your moment Charl!!! He didn’t disappoint bombing a drive within 20 yards of the pin on the par 4!! That was enough to take the wind out of the sails of China Fleet and his opponent, winning with an exquisite chip resulting in a well earned 5 v 4 victory.

Now on to St Enodoc for the final in March. Brilliant performance by all WCGC team players.
