Alyson James and Elspeth Owen both qualified in the strokeplay event held at Cardigan GC on Saturday 2nd May which took them both to the quarter final knockout stages in the afternoon of the Carmarthen & Pembrokeshire Women's County Championships. They both won their match securing them places in the semi final on Sunday morning. Alyson against Dwynwen Holgate (Cardigan and current holder of the trophy) and Els against Marni Copeland (Cardigan). It was always going to be tough against these 2 Cardigan youngsters who know the course so well. Els was up in her match early on but finally lost 4 and 3. Alyson, having already beaten Dwynwen in the previous week in our Scratch match was ready for a repeat performance. It was a very closely fought game standing on the 18th tee all square. Both players close to the pin for 3 only for Alyson to see her birdie putt slide past the hole and Dwynwen holing hers to retain the title. Congratulations to Alyson and Els for flying the flag for Haverfordwest GC.
