This year’s Ladies’ County Championship at Birstall GC saw three of our juniors competing…..Gabby Crowfoot, Scarlett Stevenson and Edie Speirs(an Away member) and all three made it through the Qualifying Day 36 holes to the Championship Quarter Finals, a tremendous achievement in itself. Gabby and Scarlett were drawn against each other and Scarlett went down fighting in a very respectable 4&2 match outcome. (In her acceptance speech Gabby remembered playing her first Flag 50 event with Scarlett at Birstall when they were very young, so it was a fitting occasion to play together again this weekend.)

Edie won her match and the Semi Final to meet Gabby in the 36 hole Final. This was Gabby’s last chance to play in this annual event before taking up her Golf Scholarship in America and her determination and focus were clear from the very start when her qualifying rounds of 72 and 73 put her some distance ahead of the rest of the field. Both finalists played some outstanding golf with Gabby coming out on top with a decisive 12&10 result.

As well as The Lytton Trophy, Gabby also won trophies as the best-placed Junior, best gross stroke play score from Day 1, and was awarded her County Colours for being the overall winner.
