Once everyone headed out (mostly in order) the matches remained tight through the first 5 holes. Greg was 1 up after 5, up against their top player Craig Davidson. Alan Kerr had also gotten off to a flyer sitting 4 up after 5 and James was also 2 up early on with all the other matches remaining all square.
Robbie Main returned to the team after finishing University, allowing him to focus on golf “full-time”. Robbie played some excellent golf to sit 2 up after 12. Greg and Ethan on the other hand were both 1 down after 12. While the front matches were tight the tail was wagging: Alan 6 up at the turn and Stuart at no.8 was 2 up after 9.
George held a steady 1 hole lead through 12 but struggled to pull further ahead despite his play deserving it. Malcolm was in a real tussle with another very tough opponent Ross Noon. Malcolm was 2 down after 13 and Robbie’s lead had evaporated to all square after 12.
It became vital to get something out of the early matches as they headed into the final few holes with the tail matches still in our favour.
Our attention turned to the 18th to watch both Malcolm, who had brilliantly turned his match around and Robbie win at the 18th. Malcolm being 1 up going down the last and Robbie all square. This swung the match massively in our favour and allowed us to inform the back players that we had 2 points in the bag.
Greg had played some great golf but succumbed to his opponent at the 16th losing 3&2. However Ethan had battled back and was now 1 up. Alan had secured a convincing win to give us a 3rd point. 3-1 at this stage.
George heading down 18th 1 up again secured another point under great pressure, our 3rd match win going down the last hole.
At this point it felt like we could relax as the win was almost guaranteed but “goal difference” can come into play so it was great to see Ethan win his game with James and Stuart adding the cherry on top.
A 7-1 home win. While the team sheet doesn’t lie it had been a very tight match for most of the evening. We now get a week off.
