A team of 14 men and women from Osborne Golf Club took on Cowes Golf Club in the recently revived annual Bill Smart Trophy on Saturday 9 May.
The trophy and friendly fixture were originally introduced in 1973 by Bill Smart, who was a member of both clubs and keen to encourage camaraderie and sporting friendship between them.
With this being the first meeting for seven years, the day was as much about renewing friendships and enjoying the game as it was about the result itself. After a highly enjoyable afternoon of golf, followed by drinks and homemade cakes in the clubhouse, Cowes emerged victorious to retain the trophy.
Congratulations to Cowes, and both clubs are already looking forward to next year’s rematch, which will be hosted by Cowes Golf Club.
