Members Update
Course and Term Memberships
The Board remains committed to providing members with the best course possible, whilst recognising the practical constraints of budget and available resources. To support this objective, we are pleased to announce the appointment of Paul Larsen, a highly respected golf course and greenkeeping consultant. Paul currently advises around a dozen golf clubs and is perhaps best known for his previous role as Head Greenkeeper at Royal St George's Golf Club. Working alongside Neil and the greenkeeping team, Paul will review all aspects of our current course management practices and help introduce new ideas and innovative approaches to course presentation and maintenance. Members will be aware that we are planning to renew our ageing machinery fleet. Rather than replacing our existing rough mower on a like-for-like basis, Paul will assist us in identifying the most suitable robotic mowing solution. This technology will enable us to create more defined areas of rough, improving both the visual appearance of the course and its playability. Whilst Paul's services represent an investment, we anticipate that much of this cost will be offset through the preferential supplier discounts and purchasing arrangements he has negotiated on behalf of the clubs he advises. Paul will commence work on 24 July, initially attending the club for one day each week. The arrangement will be kept under regular review to ensure that both the club and Paul gain the maximum benefit from the partnership. ________________________________________ Following the recent Extraordinary General Meeting regarding the proposed replacement of the irrigation system, we are delighted to report that members have expressed interest totalling £292,500 through the five and ten-year subscription scheme—just one five-year subscription short of our original target. Draft agreements will be issued to participating members today, with funds due to be received by 31 August. The contract with Abbots Irrigation, our preferred contractor, will be signed as soon as the final documentation is received. The slight delay has enabled us to negotiate a further £12,000 reduction in the contract price. Subject to completion of the contract, installation works remain scheduled to commence during the first week of October, marking a significant step towards securing the long-term quality and sustainability of our golf course.
