Veterans Trophy
18th August
Tuesday saw round 5 (of 6) of The Vets take place on a damp and breezy day with the early starters getting the best of the weather. The afternoon had really blustery conditions with a couple of heavy showers. But the wind and the rain didn’t stop some players from submitting some very good scores in the conditions and none more so than Billy Deerness with an excellent 41 points. Billy’s 41 was his 3rd score to be submitted, it improved on his July score by a full 10 points and brings him in to leaderboard contention with one round remaining. Hard on Billy’s heels was The Veterans Veteran, Senior Team Captain Bob Stokes with Bob shooting an excellent 38 points on the day. In 3rd place on the day (beaten by Bob’s better inward half) and also on 38 points was Archer Wilson. Mentions also to Neil Rennie and Gary Sneddon both playing very well in tricky conditions to shoot 37 points each. Gordon More, current leader in the competition didn’t play, but he managed to retain his lead and sits on a healthy 117 points with just 1 round remaining. Closest to Gordon at the moment is Grant Hawthorne on 110 points, now followed by Billy Deerness on 107 points and Robert Smith also on 107 points. Kevin Cogan improved his overall tally slightly and sits just a further point behind on 106 points. There were 2 birdie 2’s on the day with Bob Stokes birdieing the 3rd and J Thomson birdieing the 5th. Both win a sleeve of balls which will be awarded at the season end prize giving. Well done to all players and we’ll see you for the final round in September.
