Greens report 21/08/26
Golf course update August 20th, 2026 As we are in the last weeks of summer, I’d like to say a big thank you to my team. They have worked wonders throughout the year, preserving and producing playing surfaces in one of the most challenging summers on record. Early season applications of soil surfactants paid dividends, in allowing the soil to make the most of any moisture it received. There are still areas with a hint of green to them and our focus over the next few months will be to maximize recovery before winter sets in. Applications of soil surfactants, bio stimulants and gypsum will be made to all closely mown areas. This will improve and repair the soil structure beneath and allow the plant to develop a superior root system creating a strong sward to improve tolerance to the future climate extremes. Alongside this extensive over seeding and aeration will be taking place giving us the opportunity to promote the desired species across the course. As the temperature drops slightly cooler and as autumn approaches our disease management becomes another key focus. This will mean a slightly higher height of cut, balanced nutrition, reducing the buildup of debris and leaves on critical surfaces to help minimize stress and reduce the pressure of disease. Tree management will be continuing throughout the year and into next spring. Our aim is to lift canopies, thin out select areas and reduce future tree related issues. Additional project work will undertake and updates to follow at a later date. As always thank you for all your support and patience in what has been an extremely challenging period for turf management. Many thanks Rob Lawley Course Manager OPGC
