Dale Munson produced a superb comeback to defeat Adam Johnston in the prestigious Joe Sprott Scratch Final at Grimsby Golf Club. Played over 36 holes, the final looked to be heading Adam’s way early on as he raced into an impressive 4-up lead after just five holes. Dale, however, responded in outstanding fashion. Showing tremendous consistency, he gradually fought his way back into the match and had completely turned things around by the halfway stage, finishing the opening 18 holes 1-up. The quality of Dale’s golf was exceptional. At the heart of his comeback was a remarkable run of 17 consecutive pars, which kept the pressure firmly on Adam as the pair headed into the afternoon round. Dale continued to control the match after the turn and eventually sealed a memorable victory on the 31st hole, completing a fantastic turnaround and claiming the Joe Sprott Trophy. A superb final between two excellent golfers and a performance worthy of one of Grimsby Golf Club’s prestigious scratch competitions. Congratulations to Dale Munson – Joe Sprott Scratch Champion! And well played to Adam Johnston on an excellent run to the final
