PREFERRED LIES – FROM TODAY Please be reminded that Preferred Lies come into force at Hawkstone Park Golf Club from today, 1st October. Quick rules reminder: • Preferred Lies apply only as specified by the Local Rule. • Mark your ball before lifting it. • Place the ball within the permitted distance and in the permitted area. • The ball may be cleaned before being placed. • Once placed, the ball is in play — no further movement is permitted unless the Local Rule allows it. Please ensure you are familiar with the full Local Rule before playing. In More Detail: The following Local Rules become effective on Thursday 1st October until further notice. Preferred Lies (Model Local Rule E-3 applies). When a player's ball lies in a part of the general area cut to fairway height or less, the player may take free relief once by placing the original ball and playing it from this relief area: Reference Point: Spot of the original ball. Size of Relief Area Measured from Reference Point: 6 inches from the reference point, but with these limits: Must not be nearer the hole than the reference point, and Must be in the general area. In proceeding under this Local Rule, the player mark the ball then must choose a spot to place the ball and use the procedures for replacing a ball under Rules 14.2b(2) and 14.2e.
